New Delhi: REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of REC Limited, on Tuesday (July 14, 2026) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Gandhigram Rural Institute (GRI) for the establishment of a 1 MW ground-mounted, grid-connected Solar Photovoltaic Power Plant at the institute’s campus in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu.
The MoA was signed by Jaspal Singh Kushwaha, General Manager, RECPDCL, and Dr M. Sundaramari, Registrar, GRI, in the presence of Prof. Dr N. Panchanatham, Vice-Chancellor, GRI, Thara Ramesh, Head of Department & CPM, REC Regional Office, Chennai, and senior officials from both organisations.
The proposed 1 MW solar power plant will meet the entire electricity requirement of the institute, enabling it to transition to 100% green energy. The facility will also serve as a demonstration centre for various solar photovoltaic technologies, providing practical learning, research and innovation opportunities for students, scholars and faculty members.
The initiative is aimed at promoting renewable energy adoption, reducing carbon emissions and supporting the Government of India’s clean energy goals while reinforcing RECPDCL’s commitment to sustainable development.
