Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has closed the departmental inquiry against three IPS officers in the June 4, 2025 Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede case. All three have been cleared of the charges framed against them under the All India Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1969.
The officers are B Dayananda (IPS:1994:KN), the then Bengaluru City Police Commissioner; Vikash Kumar Vikash (IPS:2004:KN), the then Inspector General of Police and Additional Commissioner of Police (West); and Shekhar H Tekkannavar (IPS:2014:KN), the then Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Division.
The orders were issued by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (Services-IV) on Tuesday.
The three officers were suspended on June 5, 2025, a day after the stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium. Eleven people lost their lives and 56 others were injured during celebrations of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s first IPL title. Their suspension was revoked in July 2025. However, the departmental inquiry continued.
The officers submitted their written replies on September 8, 2025. They denied all charges and sought to be cleared.
After examining their replies and the opinion of the administrative department, the government decided to drop the disciplinary proceedings.
With this, the departmental inquiries have been closed and all three officers have been exonerated.
However, in the case of Shekhar H Tekkannavar, the government has issued a warning. He has been asked to act responsibly and ensure that such incidents do not happen again. No such warning has been issued to B. Dayananda or Vikash Kumar Vikash.
