New Delhi: Manish Mishra (IAS:2015:WB) has been appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals, Delhi, under the Central Staffing Scheme.

According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Thursday (July 16, 2026), the competent authority has approved his appointment for a period of four years from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Notably, the West Bengal government recently relieved Mishra for central deputation after he remained on compulsory wait in the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) without a posting. The Centre had sought his services for central deputation in March 2026, following his transfer from the post of District Magistrate, Darjeeling, to Special Secretary, Home & Hill Affairs Department by the West Bengal government.

Mishra’s transfer came in the backdrop of a controversy over the alleged protocol lapses during President Droupadi Murmu’s visit to North Bengal on March 7, 2026, to attend the 9th International Santal Conference.
