The Jharkhand government on Friday (01.11.2024) appointed senior IAS officer Alka Tiwari (IAS:1988:JH) as the new Chief Secretary . Tiwari succeeds L Khiangte (IAS:1988:JH), who retired on October 31.
Tiwari was repatriated to the Jharkhand cadre from central deputation on October 15, amid speculation that she would assume the role of Chief Secretary. Prior to her repatriation, she served as Secretary of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) in the Government of India.
The state government had requested a three-month extension for Khiangte, but with no response from the Centre, his tenure concluded on October 31.
