M Sai Kumar (IAS:1990:TN) has been granted a six-month extension as Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu. The Central Government approved the proposal following a request from the state government.
According to an order issued on Wednesday, Sai Kumar’s tenure has been extended from September 1, 2026 to February 28, 2027.
The extension has been granted under Rule 16(1) of the AIS (DCRB) Rules, 1958.
The Tamil Nadu government had sent the proposal on June 3 seeking an extension of Sai Kumar’s tenure, as he was due to retire on August 31 on attaining the age of superannuation.
Sai Kumar was appointed Chief Secretary by the Election Commission of India during the Assembly elections. He had replaced N Muruganandam (IAS:1991:TN), who was removed by the Commission during the election period.
