IAS officer Hari Narayanan Murugan (IAS:2011:AP) has been appointed as Director in the Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation for five years. According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Tuesday (27.05.2025), the competent authority has approved the appointment of Mr Murugan to the post under the Central Staffing Scheme for a period of five years from the date of taking over charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Minakshi Verma repatriated to parent cadre
Minakshi Verma (IP&TA&FS:2008), currently serving as IFA (Deputy Secretary level), ITBP in the Ministry of Home Affairs, has been prematurely repatriated to her parent cadre. According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Monday (26.05.2025), the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal of Ministry of Home Affairs to repatriate Ms Verma to her parent cadre on administrative ground with the provision of extended cooling off.
Haryana Governor administers oath to CIC and 4 State Information Commissioners
Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatraya administered the oath of office and allegiance to the newly appointed Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) and four State Information Commissioners during a formal ceremony at Raj Bhavan on Monday. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and several dignitaries were present on the occasion.
Former Chief Secretary and retired IAS officer TVSN Prasad (IAS:1988:HY) took oath as the Chief Information Commissioner. Additionally, the Governor administered the oath to four newly appointed State Information Commissioners — Amarjit Singh (Retired HCS officer), Karmaveer Saini, Neeta Kheda, and Sanjay Madan.
Governor Dattatraya emphasized the crucial role of the Information Commission in promoting transparency and accountability in a democratic system. He expressed hope that the newly appointed commissioners would carry out their responsibilities with integrity and commitment, further strengthening the Right to Information framework in the state.
SC Collegium recommends transfer of 4 Chief Justices
The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the transfer of chief justices of the high courts of Rajasthan, Tripura, Jharkhand and Madras. The decision was taken at a meeting of the collegium, headed by Chief Justice BR Gavai, on May 26.
They are;
- Justice Mohan Shrivastava (PHC: Chhattisgarh), Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court has been recommended to be made the Chief Justice of Madras High Court.
- Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh (PHC: Jharkhand), Chief Justice of Tripura High Court has been recommended to be made the Chief Justice of Telangana High Court.
- Justice MS Ramachandra Rao (PHC: Telangana), Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court has been recommended to be made the Chief Justice of Tripura High Court.
- Justice KR Shriram (PHC: Bombay), Chief Justice of Madras High Court has been recommended to be made the Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court.
Centre notifies appointment of 7 Additional HC Judges
The Union government on Monday (26.05.2025) notified the appointment of seven advocates as Additional Judges in various High Courts across the country.
The appointments are as follows:
- Deepak Khot, Amit Seth, and Pawan Kumar Dwivedi – appointed as Additional Judges of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
- Rohit Kapoor – appointed as Additional Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
- Subhash Upadhyay – appointed as Additional Judge of the Uttarakhand High Court.
- Shamima Jahan – appointed as Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court.
- Sachin Shivajirao Deshmukh – appointed as Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court.
These appointments were made following the recommendations of the Supreme Court Collegium on various dates.
SC Collegium recommends 5 new High Court Chief Justices
The Supreme Court Collegium on Monday (May 26, 2025) recommended the appointment of Chief Justices for five High Courts. In its meeting, the five-member Collegium proposed new appointments for the High Courts of Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Gauhati, Patna, and Jharkhand.
The recommendations are as follows:
- Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, for appointment as Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court.
- Justice Vibhu Bakhru, Judge of the Delhi High Court, for appointment as Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court.
- Justice Ashutosh Kumar, Judge of the Patna High Court, for appointment as Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court.
- Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi, Judge of the Patna High Court, for appointment as Chief Justice of Patna High Court.
- Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, Judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, for appointment as Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court.
Andhra Pradesh: Harish Kumar Gupta appointed Full-Time DGP
The Andhra Pradesh government on Monday (26.05.2025) appointed senior IPS officer Harish Kumar Gupta (IPS:1992:AP) as the full-time Director General of Police (DGP) for a tenure of two years.
Gupta had been holding the post as full additional charge since February 1, 2025, following the retirement of former DGP D Tirumala Rao (IPS:1989:AP) on January 31. In addition to acting as DGP, he was also serving as Director General, Vigilance & Enforcement, and Ex-Officio Principal Secretary, General Administration (V&E) Department.
The state government had earlier sent a panel of eligible names to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The Empanelment Committee Meeting, held on April 30, 2025, at the UPSC office in New Delhi, finalized its recommendations and communicated a panel of names for appointment as DGP (Head of Police Force).
As www.legendofficers.com reported on December 27, 2024, Harish Kumar Gupta had emerged as one of the frontrunners for the post, closely followed by Madireddy Pratap (IPS:1991:AP).

SC Collegium Recommends 3 HC Judges for Supreme Court
The Supreme Court Collegium on Monday (26.05.2025) recommended the elevation of three High Court judges—two Chief Justices and one senior judge—to the Supreme Court.
The names recommended for elevation are:
- Justice N V Anjaria, Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court
- Justice Vijay Bishnoi, Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court
- Justice A S Chandurkar, Judge, Bombay High Court
The five-member Collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India B R Gavai, met to deliberate on filling current vacancies on the Supreme Court bench.
These vacancies emerged following the retirement of former Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and Justice A S Oka. An additional vacancy will arise with the upcoming retirement of Justice Bela M Trivedi on June 9—although her last working day was May 15.
With a sanctioned strength of 34, the Supreme Court is currently functioning with only 32 judges.
Jharkhand: Major bureaucratic reshuffle, new DCs in 20 Districts
In a major reshuffle, the Jharkhand government on Monday (26.05.2025) transferred and posted 20 IAS officers, all of whom have been appointed as District Magistrates and Deputy Commissioners. As a result, 20 districts will have new administrative heads.


Dr. Samir V Kamat gets second extension as DRDO chief
Distinguished scientist Dr. Samir V Kamat’s tenure as Secretary, Department of Defence Research and Development (DDR&D), and Chairman, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), has been extended for another year. According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Monday (26.05.2025), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the extension under FR 56(d) from June 1, 2025, to May 31, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
This is Dr. Kamat’s second consecutive extension. His first extension was granted on May 27, 2024, just days before his scheduled retirement on May 31, 2024. At the time, it was reported that a screening committee had recommended three potential successors, but the government opted to retain Dr. Kamat.
He was appointed as Secretary, DDR&D and Chairman, DRDO in August 2022, succeeding G. Satheesh Reddy, and was initially set to serve until the age of 60 i.e. May 31, 2024.
