Haryana: Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi may get service extension

CS Anurag Rastogi

The incumbent Chief Secretary of Haryana, Anurag Rastogi (IAS:1990:HY), may not retire on June 30, 2025, if the Centre approves the state government’s forthcoming proposal seeking an extension in his service.

The Haryana government has decided to recommend a six-month extension in service for Rastogi, allowing him to continue as Chief Secretary beyond his scheduled retirement date. A formal communication to this effect will be sent to the central government shortly.

Rastogi, who was appointed to the top bureaucratic post in February 2025, is due to superannuate on June 30. RBI Deputy Governor T Rabi Sankar Appointed to 16th Finance Commission

T Rabi Sankar

RBI Deputy Governor T Rabi Sankar has been appointed as a part-time member of the 16th Finance Commission (XVIFC). His tenure will last from the date of assuming charge until the commission submits its report or October 31, 2025, whichever is earlier.

Sankar’s appointment fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Ajay Narayan Jha, a full-time member of the commission, who stepped down due to personal reasons.

The 16th Finance Commission was constituted on December 31, 2023, with Arvind Panagariya, former Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog, as its Chairperson. The commission is mandated to submit its recommendations by October 31, 2025, which will apply for the five-year period beginning April 1, 2026.

As a constitutional body, the Finance Commission makes key recommendations on fiscal relations between the Centre and the states. The previous 15th Finance Commission, chaired by N.K. Singh, had recommended a 41% share of the Centre’s divisible tax pool to states — a proportion retained from the 14th Finance Commission led by Y.V. Reddy.
