Senior IPS officer Jitendra Singh Meena (IPS:2007:CG), currently serving as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has been appointed as Inspector General (IG) in the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D).

Meena was initially appointed to central deputation for five years by an order dated 13 December 2023, and he assumed charge in the CBI on 15 January 2024.
Notably, Jitendra Singh Meena was among 65 IPS officers empanelled on May 11 for holding Inspector General or equivalent-level posts in the Government of India. His latest appointment as IG in BPR&D follows this empanelment.
In a major bureaucratic reshuffle aimed at streamlining administrative efficiency, the Delhi government on Monday (16.06.2025) issued transfer and posting orders for as many as 23 IAS officers, marking one of the most significant reassignments in recent months.
One of India’s most distinguished bureaucrats, Amitabh Kant (Retd. IAS:1980:KL), who served as the country’s G20 Sherpa and former CEO of NITI Aayog, has stepped down from public life after an illustrious 45-year career. Prime Minister Narendra Modi accepted his resignation from the G20 Sherpa role with effect from June 15, 2025.
Kant played a pivotal role during India’s presidency of the G20, especially at the successful summit hosted in New Delhi on September 9–10, 2023. He took over as G20 Sherpa in July 2022, succeeding Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Kant reflected on his journey:
My New Journey: After 45 years of dedicated government service, I have made the decision to embrace new opportunities and move forward in life. I am incredibly thankful to the Prime Minister of India for accepting my resignation as G20 Sherpa and for having given me the…
He hinted at future plans, stating that he looks forward to contributing to India’s vision of Viksit Bharat by supporting free enterprise, startups, think tanks, and academic institutions.
On his LinkedIn profile, Kant shared a detailed account of his four-decade-long career, which began in Kerala, where he launched the iconic “God’s Own Country” tourism campaign and undertook initiatives to revive Calicut city, improve airport infrastructure, and support local fishing communities.
As Secretary of the Department for Industrial Policy and Promotion, he was instrumental in key reform programs such as Ease of Doing Business, Make in India, and Startup India, which collectively elevated India’s standing by 79 ranks in the World Bank’s ease of doing business index.
During his tenure as CEO of NITI Aayog (2016–2022), he spearheaded transformative projects including the Aspirational Districts Programme, SDG localisation, National Electric Mobility Mission, and the LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) initiative. He also played a central role in strengthening India’s digital public infrastructure through the Atal Innovation Mission, PLI schemes, and Green Hydrogen Mission.
Expressing gratitude to senior leaders like Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, and Principal Secretary to the PM Dr. P.K. Mishra, Kant said, “To my Ministers—Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman & Dr S.Jaishankar & Prl Secy to PM Shri P.K.Mishra -I am grateful for your guidance and support. To all my colleagues, mentors & friends—thank you for your inspiration.”
In an unusual move, the Delhi government’s Home Department has issued a formal order confirming that Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora (IPS:1988:TN) will demit office on July 31, the date of his scheduled superannuation. The early announcement, made through an official order dated June 9—nearly 50 days in advance—has effectively quashed speculation about any potential extension of service.
This is the first time in recent memory that such a pre-retirement notice has been issued so well ahead of time for a Delhi Police Commissioner, prompting considerable discussion within bureaucratic and policing circles. Reports suggest that Arora had sought an extension of service from the Ministry of Home Affairs, but his request was turned down by Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena following advice from Ministry.
Arora assumed charge as the Commissioner of Delhi Police in August 2022, succeeding Rakesh Asthana (IPS:1984:GJ), who also came from outside the AGMUT cadre.
With Arora’s departure now imminent, the focus has shifted to who will be chosen to lead the national capital’s police force next. Among the senior officers in the fray are Virender Singh (IPS:1991:AGMUT), currently Special Commissioner of Police, Licensing & Legal Division; Satish Golcha (IPS:1992:AGMUT), Director General of Prisons; and Praveen Ranjan (IPS:1993:AGMUT), presently serving as Special Director General, CISF.
Notably, both Arora and his predecessor Asthana hailed from outside the AGMUT cadre, sparking debate over whether the tradition of selecting Delhi’s top cop from within the cadre will be restored or whether the Centre will once again opt for an external candidate.
