New Delhi: The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of Delhi High Court Judge Justice V Kameswar Rao as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court.
The recommendation was made at a meeting of the Supreme Court Collegium held on August 6, 2026. Justice Sudhir Singh is currently serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the Patna High Court.
Justice V Kameswar Rao completed his B.A. (Honours) in Geography in 1987 and LL.B. in 1990 from the University of Delhi. He enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi in March 1991 and practised before the Supreme Court, Delhi High Court and Central Administrative Tribunal (Principal Bench), New Delhi. He also appeared before the Madras High Court and the Port Blair Circuit Bench of the Calcutta High Court.
He primarily practised in service, labour, arbitration, constitutional and administrative law and represented various PSUs, banks and autonomous bodies. The Delhi High Court designated him as a Senior Advocate in January 2010.
Justice Rao was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court on April 17, 2013, and was appointed a permanent judge on March 18, 2015.
He was transferred to the Karnataka High Court and assumed office on June 1, 2024. He also served as the Acting Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court from May 30, 2025.
Justice Rao was subsequently repatriated to the Delhi High Court and resumed office there on July 21, 2025.
