Amid serious allegations of misconduct and a row over protocol with army officers, senior IPS officer Veenu Bansal (IPS:2004:AGMUT) was removed from the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday night. He was holding the crucial post of Joint Police Commissioner (Security) at the President’s Estate.
Bansal has been attached to Delhi Police Headquarters with immediate effect.
Media reports quoting Delhi Police sources indicate that Rashtrapati Bhavan staff were peeved with Bansal’s inappropriate behavior, and a significant number of them even went on leave due to it. Bansal is also said to have used the Rashtrapati Bhavan golf course for his personal acquaintances. If these allegations are true, this is undoubtedly a serious security issue involving Rashtrapati Bhavan housing the head of the state. Such incidents are said to have occurred several times.
But what precipitated the crisis for the senior IPS officer is his row with army officers over protocol by citing the Blue Book to senior army officers. It is also alleged that Bansal even instructed his subordinates to behave inappropriately. This incident is reported to have deeply annoyed army officers.
Many officials view this as a serious breach in the security of Rashtrapati Bhavan. This action was reportedly taken after the controversy escalated.
