ACC extends Railway Board Chairman & CEO Satish Kumar’s tenure by one year

The ACC has approved a one-year extension in the tenure of Railway Board Chairman and CEO Satish Kumar till August 31, 2027, on a contractual re-employment basis.

New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved a one-year extension in the tenure of Satish Kumar (Retd IREME:1986) as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Railway Board.

According to an official order, the extension has been granted on a contractual re-employment basis with effect from September 1, 2026, by relaxing the provisions of the Indian Railway (Selection to Senior Posts) Rules, 2025.

This is the second consecutive post-retirement extension granted to Kumar. He was earlier re-employed for one year from September 1, 2025, after attaining the age of superannuation.

Satish Kumar had taken over as Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board on September 1, 2024. With the latest extension, he will continue in the top post until August 31, 2027.

During his extended tenure, Kumar will continue to lead Indian Railways’ ongoing initiatives in modernisation, infrastructure expansion and operational reforms, making him one of the few Railway Board chiefs in recent years to receive two successive post-retirement extensions.
