New Delhi: In a significant development, Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary Anurag Jain (IAS:1989:MP) has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog. Notably, Legendofficers.com had reported on June 12, 2026, that Anurag Jain was the frontrunner for the post.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Wednesday (July 22, 2026), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved his appointment as CEO, NITI Aayog till the expiry of his approved extension in service and thereafter on a contract basis for an overall period of two years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Anurag Jain will succeed Nidhi Chhibber (IAS:1994:CG), Director General of the Development Monitoring and Evaluation Office (DMEO), who has been holding the additional charge of CEO, NITI Aayog after BVR Subrahmanyam (IAS:1987:CG) completed his tenure on February 24, 2026.
Notably, Anurag Jain’s approved extension in service as Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh is valid till August 31, 2026. As per the ACC order, he will serve as CEO of NITI Aayog till the expiry of his approved extension in service and thereafter for an overall period of two years, taking his tenure up to August 31, 2028, unless further orders provide otherwise.
A highly regarded administrator, Anurag Jain enjoys the confidence of the central leadership. Following the formation of the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh, he was repatriated from the Centre and appointed Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh on September 30, 2024. He assumed charge on October 1, 2024, succeeding Veera Rana (IAS:1988:MP) upon her retirement.
