Anti-naxal operations specialist Sundarraj P appointed IG in NIA

Senior IPS officer Sundarraj P appointed as Inspector General in NIA; Chhattisgarh asked to relieve him immediately.

Senior IPS officer Sundarraj P (IPS:2003) has been appointed as Inspector General in the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

According to an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Tuesday (June 16, 2026), the competent authority has approved his appointment against an existing vacancy on the usual terms and conditions of central deputation.

The Ministry has also requested the Chhattisgarh government to relieve the officer immediately to enable him to take up his new assignment at the Centre.

Sundarraj Pattilingam is widely known for his long association with anti-Naxal operations in Chhattisgarh. He is considered the longest-serving IPS officer in Bastar region and has served there for nearly 12 years, including seven continuous years as police chief of the range comprising seven districts of south Chhattisgarh.

During his tenure, he played a key role in supervising anti-Naxal operations and coordinating with central armed forces in one of the country’s most Maoist-affected regions.
