Smriti Sharan (IPoS:1993), currently serving as Joint Secretary in the Department of Rural Development, has been prematurely repatriated to her parent cadre on personal grounds.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Monday (February 23, 2026), the competent authority has approved the proposal of the Department of Rural Development to repatriate her with effect from March 31, 2026.
Sharan was appointed as Joint Secretary on February 23, 2022, for a five-year tenure. Her central deputation was originally scheduled to conclude in 2027. However, she is being repatriated before completion of her tenure on personal grounds.
