In a major bureaucratic turnaround, the President of India has revoked the suspension of Hemant Kumar (IAS:2013:AGMUT), ordering his reinstatement following the closure of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) case against him. The decision, based on the absence of substantiating evidence, signals the end of a nearly two-year suspension. Hemant Kumar is set to return to active service on September 6, 2025
Kumar was initially suspended by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on October 20, 2023, amid allegations of irregularities linked to an arbitration award in a land acquisition case in Bamnoli village, Delhi, involving a national highway project . The government appointed SK Srivastava (Retd.IAS:1980:AGMUT) as the Inquiring Authority and Dilkhush Meena (IAS:2019:AGMUT) as the Presenting Officer for the departmental inquiry, but their findings did not conclusively support the charges.
Meanwhile, the CBI investigation was officially closed with no criminal proceedings pending. Based on this outcome, the President’s order has officially reinstated Kumar, nullifying his suspension, which had been extended periodically—last extended on March 10, 2025, for 180 days until September 5.
