The central deputation tenure of Rahul Singh (IAS:1996:BH), serving as Chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), has been extended for two more years. According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Wednesday (August 6, 2025), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension till November 11, 2027, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Rahul Singh began his central deputation on November 11, 2020, as Joint Secretary, DoPT, for a tenure of five years. He was later empanelled for Additional Secretary-level posts in September 2022 and served as Additional Secretary, DoPT, until March 2024. On March 13, 2024, he was appointed as CBSE Chairperson.
A Bihar cadre IAS officer, Singh has been instrumental in administrative reforms and is expected to continue overseeing key CBSE initiatives and policy implementation during his extended tenure.
