The Maharashtra government on Wednesday (July 9, 2025) transferred Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) Police Commissioner Madhukar Pandey (IPS:1996:MH), amid public outrage following an incident where a shopkeeper was assaulted by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers for not speaking Marathi.
Niket Kaushik (IPS:1995:MH) has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Police for MBVV. Kaushik was previously serving as Additional Director General (ADG) of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). Madhukar Pandey has now been posted as ADG (Administration), Maharashtra Police.
The transfer came just a day after a protest march in Mira-Bhayandar in support of Marathi ‘asmita’ (pride). The march, led by MNS and joined by members of opposition parties including Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (SP), saw intense scenes with several activists detained by police.
