Raipur, May 17 2025: The Chhattisgarh government is set to announce the name of its new Director General of Police (DGP), as the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has finalized a panel of three IPS officers for the post and sent it to the state government. According to sources, the names shortlisted are Arun Dev Gautam (IPS:1992:CG), Pawan Dev (IPS:1992:CG), and GP Singh (IPS:1994:CG), with Gautam reportedly leading the race for the top post.
The final announcement is expected in June.
Initially, the state government had proposed a panel consisting of Pawan Dev, Arun Dev Gautam, and Himanshu Gupta. However, the UPSC returned the panel, reportedly raising concerns about the limited number of candidates.
As per the rules, if fewer than five DG-rank officers are available in the state, the panel should be supplemented with names from the Additional Director General (ADG) rank. Following this, the state government revised its list to include Gurjinder Pal Singh (IPS:1994:CG) and Shivram Prasad Kalluri (IPS:1994:CG), along with the original three.
Currently, Arun Dev Gautam is serving as the acting DGP, having taken charge on February 4, 2025, after the tenure of Ashok Juneja concluded on February 3, 2025.
