Agartala: The Tripura government on Saturday (17.05.2025) appointed senior IPS officer Anurag Dhankar (IPS:1994:TR) as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of the state. He will replace Amitabh Ranjan (IPS:1988:TR), who is scheduled to retire later this month. Ranjan had taken over as the state police chief on July 28, 2022.
Dhankar is currently serving as DGP (Intelligence) in Tripura.
Over the years, he has held numerous key positions both in the state and on central deputation. After returning to the state, he was appointed IGP (Law and Order) from 2013 to 2016. He was later again deputed to central services, working as IG (Research and Correctional Administration) with the Bureau of Police Research and Development, and as IG (Personnel) in the CISF. He also held senior roles as Joint Director and Additional Director in the CBI during this period.
Upon his return in September 2023, Dhankar took charge as ADGP and later as ADGP (Law and Order). In January 2024, he was promoted as DGP (Intelligence) and given additional charge of ADGP (Law and Order).
