In a significant development, senior IPS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, Vitul Kumar (IPS:1993:UP), currently serving as Special Director General in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), is set to return to his parent cadre. Sources indicate he is likely to be relieved from his central deputation by May.
The move has stirred considerable interest in UP’s bureaucratic corridors, especially as the incumbent DGP, Prashant Kumar (IPS:1990:UP), is due to retire on May 31. With the top police post set to fall vacant, Vipul Kumar’s return is being widely speculated upon in this context.
All eyes are now on the state government, as many believe the timing of his return is unlikely to be coincidental.
