Chhattisgarh is going to have a new chief of the state police as the tenure of current DGP Ashok Juneja (IPS:1989:CG) is going to expire on February 5, next year. The ruling BJP government has sent a panel of three names to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for the appointment of a new DGP.

The panel includes the names of IPS officers Pawan Dev (IPS:1992:CG) and Arun Gautam (IPS:1992:CG) as well as IPS officer Himanshu Gupta (IPS:1994:CG). It is reliably learnt that the government had prepared the names of five senior IPS officers but sent only three names for UPSC’s shortlisting.

Virtually, current incumbent Ashok Juneja’s tenure was ending in July this year itself, but he was granted a six-month extension by the government at the eleventh hour. Now that his extension is expiring, the government is looking for a new head of the state police.

Out of the three, Pawan Dev is said to be a frontrunner.
