The Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday appointed C Sylendra Babu (IPS:1987:TN) as the Director General of Police of the state. He will replace J K Tripathy (IPS:1985:TN), who is set to retire on Wednesday (30.06.2021).
Dr Babu will hold office for a tenure of two years irrespective of his date of superannuation as per the Supreme Court guidelines in the Prakash Singh case. Presently, he is serving as Director General of Police, Railways.
After the Union Public Service Commission on Monday (28.06.2021) approved a panel comprising three names – C Sylendra Babu (IPS:1987:TN), Karan Singha (IPS:1987:TN) and Sanjay Arora (IPS:1988:TN) – the DMK government chose Dr Babu to head the force.
