SC Collegium recommends Justice D Krishnakumar as next CJ of Manipur HC

The Supreme Court Collegium on Monday (18.11.2024) recommended the appointment of Justice D Krishnakumar, a Judge of the Madras High Court, as the next Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court.

The Supreme Court Collegium on Monday (18.11.2024) recommended the appointment of Justice D Krishnakumar, a Judge of the Madras High Court, as the next Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court.

The incumbent, Justice Siddharth Mridul, is set to retire on November 21. If the government approves the Collegium’s recommendation, Justice Krishnakumar would take over on the retirement of Justice Mridul.

This marks the first recommendation by the Collegium since Justice Sanjiv Khanna assumed office as the Chief Justice of India on November 11. Other members of the Collegium are: Justice BR Gavai and Justice Surya Kant.

Justice Krishnakumar was appointed as a Judge of the Madras High Court on April 7, 2016. He is scheduled to retire on May 21, 2025. He is the senior-most Judge at the Madras High Court and belongs to a Backward Community.

Before being elevated to the High Court, he had extensive experience in handling civil, constitutional and service matters with specialization in constitutional law.
