Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal assumes charge as Tamil Nadu DGP; Sandeep Rai Rathore moved to Prisons as DGP

Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal has assumed charge as Tamil Nadu DGP, while Sandeep Rai Rathore has been posted as DGP, Prisons and Correctional Services.

Senior IPS officer Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal (IPS:1994:TN) on Wednesday assumed charge as Director General of Police (DGP) and Head of Police Force of Tamil Nadu.

Aggarwal took charge a day after the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs for his repatriation from Central deputation. He was serving as Special Director General in the Border Security Force (BSF).

His appointment brings an end to the wait for a regular police chief in the state and he will now serve a fixed tenure of two years.Aggarwal succeeds Sandeep Rai Rathore (IPS:1992:TN), who had been serving as DGP and Head of Police Force.

Following the change, Rathore has been transferred and posted as DGP, Prisons and Correctional Services. At the same time, K Shankar (IPS:1996:TN), who was serving as ADGP, Prisons and Correctional Services, has been transferred and posted as ADGP, Enforcement Bureau-CID.
