Senior IPS officer Mahesh Dixit (IPS:1993:AP) has been appointed as Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), India’s premier domestic intelligence agency. He will succeed Tapan Kumar Deka (IPS:1988:HP), whose extended tenure is scheduled to end on June 30, 2026.
Dixit, an Andhra Pradesh cadre IPS officer, is currently serving as Special Director in the Intelligence Bureau.
A seasoned intelligence officer, Dixit played a key role in security management during the abrogation of Article 370 and was involved in intelligence operations in Jammu & Kashmir.
He also led important counter-terrorism efforts while heading the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB), Srinagar, with jurisdiction over Jammu, Kashmir and Leh.
