The Modi government on Monday (28.02.2022) appointed Madhabi Puri Buch as Chairperson of SEBI for a period of three years. Buch is a former whole-time member of Sebi. She will succeed Ajay Tyagi (IAS: 1984:HP), whose tenure comes to an end in February. Tyagi was appointed as SEBI chairman on March 1, 2017 for a period of three years. Subsequently, he was given a six months extension and later August 2020, his tenure was extended by another 18 months.
