Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Government has promoted S Suresh (IPS:1995:KL) and S Sreejith (IPS:1996:KL) to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP).
The promotions come following the retirement of Nitin Agrawal (IPS:1989:KL) as Director General, Fire & Rescue Services.
While S Suresh, who is currently serving on Central deputation as Additional Director General (ADG), Special Protection Group (SPG), has been granted proforma promotion, S Sreejith, who is serving as Additional Director General, Prisons & Correctional Services, has been promoted in the state cadre.
Following Sreejith’s promotion, the state government has created an ex-cadre post of Director General, Prisons & Correctional Services for a period of one year with effect from July 31, 2026, enabling him to continue heading the department in the DGP rank.
Suresh’s promotion is proforma as he is presently on Central deputation. He will continue in his current assignment with the SPC and will hold the DGP rank on his return to the Kerala cadre.
The promotions come days after the suspension of MR Ajith Kumar (IPS:1995:KL), who was facing disciplinary proceedings in connection with allegations of influencing the investigation into the alleged assault on Youth Congress workers during the Nava Kerala Sadas programme in Alappuzha in 2023.
Meanwhile, Sreejith‘s elevation has come despite the Kerala High Court recently setting aside a clean chit issued to him in a separate matter relating to his alleged foreign travel without prior government approval. The court’s order revived scrutiny of the issue, but it did not affect his promotion.
