Kerala HC quashes clean chit to ADGP S Sreejith over foreign trip without permission

The Kerala High Court has quashed the clean chit granted to ADGP S Sreejith, citing procedural lapses in the inquiry into his alleged foreign trip without permission.

Kochi: The Kerala High Court has quashed the clean chit given to ADGP S Sreejith (IPS:1996:KL) in a complaint alleging that he travelled abroad without prior official permission.

The court also set aside the inquiry report submitted by Chief Secretary Biswanath Sinha. The report had concluded that the allegations against the senior police officer were baseless.

The complaint was filed by Dipin Edavana. He alleged that Sreejith had misused his official position.

When no action was taken on the complaint, Edavana approached the Kerala High Court.

The High Court had then directed the then Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Biswanath Sinha, to hear the complainant and take a decision.

The court found fault with the manner in which the inquiry was conducted.

It said holding a joint hearing of the complainant and the officer concerned was not proper. The complainant was denied a fair opportunity to present his case, the court observed.

The court also pointed out deficiencies in the inquiry report. It noted that the report did not even mention the date.
