The current Information Commissioner, Heeralal Samariya (Retd.IAS:1985:TG) is reportedly set to assume the role of the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) for the Central Information Commission. According to reliable sources, two new Information Commissioners are also expected to be appointed: Anandi Ramalingam, the former Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Electronics Limited, and V K Tiwari, an Indian Forest Service officer from the 1986 batch.

These three appointees, including Samariya, are scheduled to take their oaths on Monday in a ceremony to be administered by President Droupdi Murmu.

The selection committee, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chose Heeralal Samariya for the position of CIC. Samariya, a former IAS officer who retired as the Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, was selected due to his seniority among the current Information Commissioners, all of whom are concluding their tenures on Monday.

Notably, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, a member of the selection committee and the leader of the largest party in the Lok Sabha, was absent from the meeting. He had been invited by the government but was unable to attend due to a prior commitment in West Bengal.

As per insider information, Chowdhury had indeed requested alternative meeting dates. However, he was informed that the meeting could not be postponed because the current Information Commissioners were set to retire on the following Monday.
