Patna : Senior IPS officer Vinay Kumar (IPS:1991:BH) has taken voluntary retirement from the Indian Police Service and has been appointed as the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) of Bihar.
According to a notification issued by the Bihar Home Department late Saturday night, Kumar applied for voluntary retirement on September 25, 2026, and the state government accepted his request with immediate effect. The notification said the VRS was granted by relaxing the rules requiring a three-month notice from the applicant.
Kumar was serving as Director General of Police, Bihar. His regular two-year tenure as state DGP was scheduled to end on December 13, 2026.
In a separate notification issued by the General Administration Department, Kumar has been appointed Chief Information Commissioner from the date he assumes charge.
Kumar had recently proceeded on leave citing health reasons. Preeta Verma (IPS:1991:BH), who took charge as Acting DGP after Kumar proceeded on leave, is likely to continue in the position until further orders.
