Govt appoints new executive directors to World Bank, Asian Development Bank

The Modi government on Monday appointed Senior bureaucrat Rajesh Khullar (IAS:1988:HY) as Executive Director, World Bank, Washington (DC) for a tenure of three years or till the date of his superannuation, i.e. August 31, 2023. Presently, he is serving as in his cadre as Principal Secretary to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

As the executive director, Khullar will represent India, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Sri Lanka at the World Bank.

The World Bank Group comprises 25 executive directors who represent a country, or constituency of countries, and they are either appointed or elected to the position.

Further, Sameer Kumar Khare (IAS:1989:AM) has been appointed Executive Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Manila for a period of three years. He is currently the additional secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs.
