Chandigarh: The Haryana government has approached the Centre seeking an extension in service for Arun Gupta (IAS:1992:HY), who is currently serving as Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and also holds the charge of Finance Secretary.
Gupta is scheduled to retire on September 30, 2026. According to government sources, Haryana has sought a one-year extension for the senior IAS officer. The final decision on the request will rest with the Centre, which may also determine the duration of any extension granted.
If approved, Gupta would continue in his present assignments beyond his scheduled date of retirement. Such a request is relatively uncommon as state governments generally seek extensions for officers serving as Chief Secretary.
Gupta was appointed Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister in November 2024. During his career, he has handled several important assignments, including the Town and Country Planning portfolio as Additional Chief Secretary.
