CRPF : DG Kuldiep Singh will continue or Atul Karwal will succeed ?

In spite of the fact that CRPF DG Kuldiep Singh (IPS:1986:WB) is trusted by the ruling dispensation, he is due to retire next month. There is speculation that an extension is unlikely. According to highly placed sources, Singh will be replaced by Gujarat cadre IPS officer Atul Karwal (IPS:1988:GJ). Karwal is presently serving as DG, NDRF. However, Karwal is strongly being considered for the post of ITBP Chief also. One of the strong point, which is going in his favour is that he is a mountaineer and even scaled Mount Everest.
