Senior IPS officer Asra Garg (IPS:2004:TN), who was serving as Inspector General of Police (IGP), North Zone, has been transferred and posted as IGP, Intelligence, Chennai.
He replaces Avinash Kumar (IPS:2004:TN), who has not been assigned a new posting yet.
A 2004-batch IPS officer of Tamil Nadu cadre, Garg has held several important assignments in the state police administration. Earlier, as IGP, South Zone, he supervised security arrangements during sensitive events such as Thevar Jayanthi and Immanuel Sekaran anniversaries.
During his tenure in the North Zone, he launched stringent action against drug peddlers and initiated financial investigations to identify and attach assets acquired through proceeds of crime.
Garg has also served in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Delhi, and earlier held the post of Additional Commissioner of Police in Greater Chennai Police.
