Senior IPS officer Amit Garg (IPS:1993:AP), presently serving as Director, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA), Hyderabad, has been appointed as Director, National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) in Level-16 of the Pay Matrix.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Monday (July 6, 2026), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved his appointment to the post from the date of assumption of charge up to October 31, 2027, the date of his superannuation, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
He will succeed Alok Ranjan (IPS:1991:MP), who retired as Director, NCRB on June 30, 2026.
Notably, Amit Garg has been serving as the regular Director of SVPNPA, Hyderabad since September 21, 2024. Prior to his regular appointment, he had been holding the post on additional charge since the retirement of A Seem Rajan (IPS:1987:BH) on February 28, 2023.
