Alok Mittal appointed DG, BPR&D till June 2029

Haryana cadre IPS officer Alok Mittal has been appointed Director General of BPR&D. He will serve till June 30, 2029, the date of his superannuation.

Senior IPS officer Alok Mittal (IPS:1993:HY) has been appointed as Director General, Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) in the Level-16 of the Pay Matrix.

According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Monday (July 6, 2026), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved his appointment to the post from the date of assumption of charge up to June 30, 2029, the date of his superannuation, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Currently, Mittal is serving in the Haryana cadre as Director General, Prisons, with the additional charge of Resident Commissioner, Haryana.

Notably, Ravi Joseph Lokku (IPS:1995:UP) has been holding the additional charge of Director General, BPR&D since July 1, 2026, following the retirement of Alok Ranjan (IPS:1991:MP) on June 30, 2026. Alok Ranjan was serving as Director, National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) and was also holding the additional charge of DG, BPR&D. With Mittal’s appointment, BPR&D has now got a regular Director General.
