In a significant development amid the transition of power in Tamil Nadu, several retired senior police officers holding key government positions have stepped down from their posts.
Former Director General of Police (DGP) Shankar Jiwal (Retd. IPS:1990:TN) resigned as Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Fire Commission. Jiwal was the first chairman of the Commission. Along with him, three members of the Commission—Vikraman, Sathyamurthy and Namachivayam—also submitted their resignations.
In a separate development, former DGP Sunil Kumar (Retd. IPS:1988:TN) resigned from his position as Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board (TNUSRB).
Former DGP Abhay Kumar Singh (Retd. IPS:1992:TN), who is currently serving as Tamil Nadu Information Commissioner, has also tendered his resignation.
Notably, these appointments were made during the tenure of the previous DMK government.
