New Delhi: The Central Government on Wednesday (August 5, 2026) approved a one year extension in service for Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan (IAS:1989:SK) beyond August 22, 2026.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension in service of Govind Mohan as Home Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, for a period of one year beyond August 22, 2026, i.e. up to August 22, 2027, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The extension has been granted in relaxation of the provisions of FR 56(d) and Rule 16(1A) of the All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958.
Govind Mohan, a 1989-batch IAS officer of the Sikkim cadre, took over as Union Home Secretary on August 22, 2024, succeeding Ajay Kumar Bhalla (IAS:1984:AM).
Notably, the Centre had earlier granted him a service extension in July 2025, allowing him to continue in office till August 22, 2026. With the latest order, he will now remain the country’s Union Home Secretary till August 22, 2027, unless ordered otherwise.
