West Bengal Constitutes 7th Pay Commission; Ex-IAS Atanu Chakraborty to Head Panel

West Bengal has constituted the 7th Pay Commission, headed by ex-IAS Atanu Chakraborty, to review pay, DA, pension and allowances.

Kolkata: The West Bengal government has constituted a four-member Seventh Pay Commission under the chairmanship of former IAS officer Atanu Chakraborty (IAS:1985:GJ) to review the pay structure of state government employees.

The Finance Department issued a resolution on Wednesday (July 23, 2026), setting up the Commission. It has been asked to submit its recommendations preferably within six months.

The Commission will review the pay structure, dearness allowance (DA), various allowances, pension, service conditions and other retirement benefits of state government employees.

The other members of the Commission are Partha Mukhopadhyay, Prof. Partha Pratim Pal of IIM Calcutta and Finance Secretary Devi Prasad Karanam.

Apart from pay revision, the Commission will examine the existing promotion policy and suggest measures to improve administrative efficiency and work-life balance of government employees.

The Commission may also take into account the Government of India’s decision on the 8th Central Pay Commission while finalising its recommendations.
