Senior Indian Statistical Service (ISS) officer Purnendu Kishore Banerjee (ISS:1993), currently serving as Joint Secretary in the Department of Higher Education, has been prematurely repatriated to his parent cadre.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Thursday (July 2, 2026), the competent authority has approved his repatriation to the parent cadre on personal grounds.
Banerjee joined the Department of Higher Education as Joint Secretary in September 2021 for a five-year tenure. His approved deputation was scheduled to end in September 2026. However, he has now been repatriated to his parent cadre about two months before the completion of his tenure.
