The Kerala Cabinet on Wednesday (June 24, 2026) decided to appoint senior IAS officer Bishwanath Sinha (IAS:1992:KL) as the next Chief Secretary of the state. He will succeed A Jayathilal (IAS:1991:KL), who is scheduled to retire on June 30.

Sinha is currently serving as Additional Chief Secretary, Home and Vigilance Department.

A 1992-batch officer, Sinha has served in several departments during his career, including Environment, Finance, Sports and Public Works.

Notably, KR Jyothilal (IAS:1993:KL) was also considered for the post. However, the state government chose Sinha for the top administrative position, giving preference to seniority.

Sinha has around two years of service left and is scheduled to retire in September 2028.
