Senior IPS officer Alok Sharma (IPS:1991:UP) has been granted a nine-month extension in service as Director, Special Protection Group (SPG).
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Wednesday (June 24, 2026), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved extension in his service for a period of nine months with effect from July 1, 2026.
Sharma was scheduled to retire on June 30, 2026. With the latest order, he will continue in service and as Director, SPG till March 31, 2027.
The extension has been granted in relaxation of FR 56(d) and the All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefit) Rules, 1958, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
