There is an urgent need of a DIG-rank IPS officer in the Special Protection Group (SPG), deployed for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security. According to sources, this critical situation has arisen after about a dozen officers in the SPG were recently repatriated to their parent cadre/service.
The Union Home Ministry has sent a message to the Chief Secretaries of all states (except Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and other UTs) asking them to disseminate this message to as many IPS officers as possible. They have been asked tp forward files of eligible and willing IPS officers for deputation to the Home Ministry with immediate effect.
This message, sent by the Home Ministry two weeks ago, clarifies that at least 14 years of service is mandatory for officers joining the SPG as IPS DIGs on central deputation. Deputation applications from eligible IPS officers to the SPG are be sent to the Home Ministry within 30 days.
It has also been laid down that along with the nomination documents of the eligible IPS officers, their vigilance status should also be sent.
The fact is many posts of DIG-rank officers in the Centre have remained vacant, specially in central investigation agencies, police organizations and paramilitary forces. The situation worsened after about a dozen officers in SPG were sent back to their original cadre/service recently. Due to that, applications have now been sought to fill these posts.
Being deployed in theSPG needs officers possessing high leadership qualities, professionalism, and in-depth knowledge of close protection. They foster a culture of leadership from the front. The SPG strives to achieve this goal by adopting innovative methods not only in its own operations but also in the overall security system in collaboration with the Intelligence and Security Forces and State/Union Territory police forces. It is due to the high leadership, professionalism, and knowledge of its officers that the SPG ensures impeccable and foolproof security for its protectees.
Operating on the motto of “Zero Error” and a “Culture of Excellence,” the SPG is globally recognized as one of the best in its field with its officers trained to make the supreme sacrifice when required.
