In a move that has created a buzz in Delhi’s power circles and the Delhi Police, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has transferred Madhup Kumar Tiwari (IPS:1995:AGMUT), Special Commissioner of Police (Law & Order), to Arunachal Pradesh.
The order was issued soon after the West Bengal Assembly elections and was implemented quickly. The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi relieved him immediately and asked him to join his new post in Arunachal Pradesh, where his batchmate Dr S D Singh Jamwal (IPS:1995:AGMUT) is serving as Director General of Police.
The reason behind the transfer is not known yet. However, the sudden move of the officer handling law and order in the national capital has surprised many.
This is not the first time Tiwari has seen such a move. In February 2024, he was transferred from Delhi to Chandigarh as DGP, but the decision was reversed within a month and he was brought back as Special CP (Law & Order).
That earlier transfer is still being discussed, and many officers are now trying to understand the reason behind this latest move. Inside the Delhi Police, some officers see the transfer as sudden, while others believe experienced officers are being sent to important states like Arunachal Pradesh.
Meanwhile, signs of a major reshuffle in Delhi Police are emerging. Several senior IPS officers of the AGMUT cadre are looking at key posts in the capital. Transfer orders are expected soon, and there is growing curiosity over who will get important positions. Tiwari’s transfer is being seen as the starting point of these upcoming changes.
