Ashish Vachhani gets two-year extension as Additional Secretary in PMO

Tenure of Ashish Vachhani as Additional Secretary in PMO extended by two years till May 2028, as approved by ACC through DoPT order.

The central deputation tenure of Ashish Vachhani (IAS:1997:TN) as Additional Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has been extended by two years. According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Saturday (May 2, 2026), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension of his deputation tenure for two years beyond May 23, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Ashish Vachhani has been serving in the PMO since May 2025, when he was laterally shifted from the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), where he was posted as Additional Secretary (Budget).

He had initially joined central deputation on May 23, 2021, for a five-year tenure in the DEA as Joint Secretary, which was scheduled to end on May 23, 2026. With this extension, his tenure will now run till May 23, 2028.

He was empanelled as Additional Secretary in October 2022 and was subsequently appointed to the post in the DEA in November 2022. In November 2024, he was given an extension in the upgradation of his post from Joint Secretary to Additional Secretary level till November 20, 2025. He was later shifted to the PMO in May 2025.
