The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Chhattisgarh has filed a case against three officers, including a suspended IPS officer Mukesh Gupta (IPS:1988:CG), for financial irregularities through a trust.

According to an EoW official, the case was filed against Gupta, his father Jaidev Gupta and Dr Deepshikha Agrawal, after investigations found misuse of funds at their Miki Memorial Trust.

The Trust was set up by IPS officer Gupta in 2002, with his father as its head.

The trust allegedly received huge donations from within the country and abroad, and did not share the details with the authorities concerned.

The trust set up MGM Eye Institute hospital in 2004, violating the building norms of the area.

It then borrowed a 3 crore rupees loan from the State Bank of India in 2004, by mortgaging the hospital building.

According to the EoW official, the trust later defaulted on repayment but the officer used his clout to thwart any action by the bank.

He said that the trio also conspired in obtaining a grant of Rs 3 crore from the state government, by promising free cataract surgeries for the poor, and low cost treatment of common people and government employees, but instead, used the funds in settling its bank dues.
