In a landmark development, the Odisha government has appointed a young woman IPS officer, Ananya Awasthi (IPS:2022:OD), as the Police Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the Governor, Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati.

Ananya thus becomes the first woman officer in the state to hold this prestigious position, with her appointment being widely held as a symbol of women’s empowerment.

The Governor is assisted by two Aides-de-Camp, including a Police ADC and a Naval ADC.

After taking charge as Police ADC, Ananya will now be part of the Governor’s close protocol team and play an important role in ensuring smooth coordination during official and ceremonial duties.

Ananya succeeds IPS officer Kuldeep Meena (IPS:2021:OD), who has now been posted as Superintendent of Police (SP), Boudh district.

Before her new role, the young IPS officer was serving as Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in the Urban Police District, Cuttack, where she acquired valuable experience in urban policing, law and order management, and public coordination. Her new posting reflects the trust placed in her abilities by the state administration.

Ananya completed her education at the National Law Institute University, Bhopal, one of India’s reputed law institutions.

The position of Police Aide-de-Camp to the Governor is considered a prestigious and responsible assignment. The ADC assists the Governor during official engagements, ceremonial functions, state events, public programmes, and protocol-related duties.

The role requires close coordination with the Governor’s office, government departments, police authorities, and other agencies during important official functions. Ananya’s appointment establishes a trend that shows that young women officers are being trusted with significant responsibilities at the highest levels.
