Tirumurti to replace Akbaruddin as India’s next envoy to UN

India’s missions in United Nations, UK, and the European Union (EU) are set to see new faces, with some key diplomats set to retire soon.

According to sources, former MEA spokesperson and India’s current Representative to the United Nations, Syed Akbaruddin (IFS:1985), may be replaced by T.S. Tirumurti (IFS:1985), secretary, economic relations, in the foreign ministry, when he hangs up his boots.

A former High Commissioner to Malaysia, Tirmurti was India’s Representative to the Palestinian Territories in the 90s.

India’s high commissioner to the UK, Ruchi Ghanshyam (IFS:1982), who is retiring soon, may be replaced Gaitri Kumar (IFS:1986), the envoy to Belgium, Luxembourg, and the EU.

India’s envoy to Uzbekistan, Santosh Jha (IFS:1993) is likely to move to Brussels.

India’s ambassador to the UN in Geneva, Rajiv Chander (IFS:1983), who is also retiring shortly, may be replaced by Indra Mani Pandey (IFS:1990), additional secretary in charge of disarmament and international security affairs in the foreign ministry.

Former foreign ministry spokesman Raveesh Kumar (IFS:1999) is expected to become India’s next envoy to Finland.
