Supreme Court revises order in Medha Roopam Case; stay limited to HC’s strictures, compensation

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday (September 24, 2026) revised its interim order in the plea filed by Gautam Buddh Nagar District Magistrate Medha Roopam IAS, making it clear that the stay is limited to paragraphs 27 to 33 of the Allahabad High Court judgment.

The revised order stays the adverse observations and strictures against DM Medha Roopam, along with the High Court’s direction to pay ₹5 lakh compensation to student Akriti Chaudhary and the related recovery of the amount from the officials’ salaries.

However, the Supreme Court has not stayed the High Court’s decision quashing Chaudhary’s detention under the National Security Act in connection with the Noida workers’ protest.

The matter was heard by a bench of Justices Satish Chandra Sharma and N. Kotiswar Singh on petitions filed by Medha Roopam and the Uttar Pradesh government.
