SC Collegium recommends 5 new High Court Chief Justices

SC Collegium recommends appointments of Chief Justices for High Courts of MP, Karnataka, Gauhati, Patna, and Jharkhand in a key judicial reshuffle.

Extension of tribunal members' tenure

The Supreme Court Collegium on Monday (May 26, 2025) recommended the appointment of Chief Justices for five High Courts. In its meeting, the five-member Collegium proposed new appointments for the High Courts of Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Gauhati, Patna, and Jharkhand.

The recommendations are as follows:

  • Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, for appointment as Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court.
  • Justice Vibhu Bakhru, Judge of the Delhi High Court, for appointment as Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court.
  • Justice Ashutosh Kumar, Judge of the Patna High Court, for appointment as Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court.
  • Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi, Judge of the Patna High Court, for appointment as Chief Justice of Patna High Court.
  • Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, Judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, for appointment as Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court.
